What Formed Then Can Shift

The patterns that shape us often formed long before we could put words to them. They were adaptations. They served a purpose then. Over time the same patterns that once protected us can hold us back from living the life we want. Individual counseling offers a steady, private space to slow down, understand these patterns more clearly, and work through what is getting in the way. Sometimes that means going somewhere thinking alone can’t reach.
You may have spent years putting others first, managing others’ feelings, or simply getting through. You might feel disconnected from yourself, unsure what you actually want, or notice that old patterns keep showing up in your relationships no matter how hard you try. Some people come in feeling anxious and overwhelmed. Others feel numb, flat, or just not quite themselves. Often it is both.
Many of the people I work with carry the effects of earlier experiences in their relationships, their sense of self, and their daily lives. If you are not sure whether what you are carrying fits neatly into a category, that is okay. The best way to find out if I can help is to schedule a free consultation. If I am not the right fit, I will offer referrals to connect you with the right support.
How I Work
I draw from a range of approaches, often beginning with mindfulness. No prior experience is needed. Mindfulness simply brings more awareness to your present moment experience, which can support emotional regulation and deepen the work we do in session.
For trauma, I often integrate Lifespan Integration, a gentle, body-based method that helps the nervous system register that past experiences are no longer happening in the present. The Hakomi method works at a similar depth, helping access patterns held in the body and creating space for corrective experiences to emerge.
What to Expect from Individual Counseling
I offer individual counseling in Portland and throughout Oregon, in person and via telehealth. Sessions are 55 minutes and typically begin weekly. Some trauma processing work, particularly when targeting a specific memory, may require an 80-minute session to complete properly. My work with you will focus on the long-range goals you want to move toward, while also making space for what arises in the moment.
Individual therapy works best when there is enough consistency to build on what emerges session to session. That is why weekly sessions are the starting point for most people. As the work progresses, we can adjust the frequency to fit where you are.
